Hey fellas,
Been thinking about starting a youtube channel to upload music to. Originally, I was planning to start on YT but it occurred to me that the algorithm is trash, which is why I turned to Newgrounds. I figure once I build a solid fan base on here, I'll expand to youtube (as it does generate better views, provided you have a solid foundation) and go from there.
What are your thoughts? Should I stay or should I expand, or should I wait, etc etc etc?

I'm not going to sugarcoat it: When I think about YouTube and music, I either think of officially uploaded music videos or piracy.
I don't know it loos from a publisher's side, but wouldn't a site such as bandcamp or (maybe soundcloud) make more sense than YT? (Plus: Having to add a video component to something that is purely audio seems weird.)
Ever seen those videos where the person shows the project in FL Studio as it’s being played? It’s pretty cool. But yeah you make a good point about the official music videos and piracy thing; ig not a lot of people are looking for indie music on YouTube as opposed to NG.

Keep making music, and eventually you will get a break. The kind of music you make is very good, and while most folks here want to put the music artists like us make in Geometry Dash almost exclusively (🤗), eventually you could get someone who has access to promoting.
To be fair, there are also hundreds or thousands of NG music uploads seemingly daily too, so if you can get good interaction here through all of that, then you should keep posting here regardless.

@crispybatteryacid To be perfectly honest with you, I have never seen those kinds of videos. If you could share the URL of one you thought was cool (potentially including your own works) I'd have a look at it.
My 'YouTube-experience' is going to https://9xbuddy.online/ once or twice a week, looking at the 20-ish channels that make stuff that interests me, downloading the videos of theirs that interest me, and then letting them sit on my hard drive for a decade or watching them while I eat.

@Yatsufusa AZALI makes those kinds of videos on YouTube and they are actually quite successful. They are also on Newgrounds.

You should try and make the most of it. Get that official artist tag for Spotify and YouTube and wait for when your album is finished. Not everyone uses the same platforms so IMO that would be a great way to reach the most people. Marketing is hard but very important!
Fair enough. Albums gonna take a while anyway so maybe I should get to work on earning that artist tag…

I'll speak from my experiences, having a YouTube account will make it more accessible to those who don't use Newgrounds, and will make it easier to share across imo. However the other part of it is that you'll have to use more effort when it comes to releasing music, and by that I mean you have to upload on more than one platform now. It may not be a big issue for you, but that's just something to keep in mind.
YouTube algorithm is really hit or miss, you can have a video that blows up for no reason and the next one would bomb. However there are trends you can get behind to push it out to more people (like you mentioned, recording your FL project can be one way.)
But I'm all for having a YouTube channel, as it'll be more accessible!

You could simultaneously release music on both platforms, but I think most will agree with me on the fact that it's easier to market your music on Newgrounds and build a stronger core support group here.
Consistency is key, of course! I definitely agree with you that YouTube's algorithms and sheer massive scope of available content can and WILL obscure lesser-known artists, making it way harder to get your foot in the door for any kind of audience.
If it were me, I'd build a grassroots group of fans here, so you can have closer, more engaging contact with what your fans like about your content.
